Become a Community Captain

What It Means to Be a Community Captain

Community Captains are volunteer leaders who bring Pajama Jams' mission to life in their communities. You don't need nonprofit experience—just a passion for helping children, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to bring people together for a meaningful cause.

As a Community Captain, you'll help:

  • Lead a Local Pajama Drive: Organize at least one coordinated pajama collection drive annually.

  • Build Community Partnerships: Recruit local businesses, schools, and organizations to serve as collection locations and supporters.

  • Engage Volunteers: Bring together community members to assist with collections, sorting, and other drive activities.

  • Coordinate Donations: Work with Pajama Jams to arrange collection logistics and delivery to approved distribution partners.

  • Share Our Mission: Promote Good Sleep for Good using Pajama Jams' approved materials and messaging.

  • Report Your Impact: Track donations, participating partners, and volunteer involvement so we can measure our collective impact.

Community Captains work in coordination with Pajama Jams for Youth. All activities, partnerships, and distributions are subject to organizational guidelines and approval.

Lead a Local Pajama Drive.

Make a Lasting Difference.

Since 2008, Pajama Jams has provided more than 30,000 pairs of new pajamas to children in need. What began as a simple family holiday tradition in Virginia Beach has grown into a community movement supported by volunteers, schools, and businesses.

Now, we're inviting passionate individuals to become Community Captains, organizing local pajama drives and bringing comfort, dignity, and Good Sleep for Good to children in their own communities.

What You’ll Receive

We'll help you bring Pajama Jams' mission to your community with guidance, resources, and a clear framework for organizing a successful local pajama drive.

As an approved Community Captain, you'll have access to:

  • Promotional Materials: Pajama Jams branding, flyers, and approved messaging to help promote your drive.

  • Drive Planning Guidance: Instructions for organizing collection locations, coordinating volunteers, and managing donations.

  • Community Partnership Resources: Guidance for approaching local schools, businesses, and community organizations.

  • Impact Reporting Tools: Simple ways to track collected pajamas, participating partners, and volunteer involvement.

  • Organizational Support: Communication with Pajama Jams leadership for planning, approvals, and coordination.

Resources and support are provided according to program readiness and organizational capacity. Community Captains coordinate their activities with Pajama Jams for Youth.

Who We’re Looking For

We're looking for enthusiastic, community-minded individuals who want to make a meaningful difference in children's lives.

Our ideal Community Captains are:

  • Passionate: Care about children's well-being and believe in the Pajama Jams mission.

  • Organized: Able to plan activities, coordinate volunteers, and follow through on commitments.

  • Community-Minded: Willing to build relationships with local businesses, schools, and organizations.

  • Dependable: Comfortable communicating regularly and following Pajama Jams' guidelines.

  • Ready to Lead: Willing to organize at least one local pajama drive each year and help document its impact.

You don't need previous nonprofit experience or an established volunteer network. What matters most is your commitment to helping children and bringing your community together.
